Mike Byfield’s article in the Oil & Gas Inquirer (February 15, 2010) is a keen reminder of the severe challenge that Chinese oilfield manufacturers pose to the incumbents in North America. The big question remains whether or not North America’s advantage in research and development can manage to compensate for China’s huge (yet slowly shrinking) labour cost advantage.
